Conservatives will defend the NHS
At the launch, David Cameron reiterated that the NHS will be at the heart of the next Conservative Government, if he wins the next General Election. This echoes his commitment to the NHS that he made at the recent Conservative Party Conference. Speaking there, David Cameron said: "...we will never change the idea at the heart of our NHS, that healthcare in this country is free at the point of use and available to everyone based on need, not ability to pay."
The Conservative Party is fully committed to real terms increases in spending on the NHS. Unlike the Labour Party, we are committed to reinvesting any efficiency savings back into frontline NHS care.
The Labour Party claims to be the Party that defends the NHS. It isn't. Look at how they've been trying to undermine Lewisham Hospital, by threatening to close the accident and emergency unit there.
The NHS is safe under the Conservatives.
At the start of the New Year, I joined David Cameron and Andrew Lansley MP, Shadow Health Secretary, at the launch of the Conservative Party's draft Manifesto for the NHS.
